  • Hoot n' Nanny Day Are you ready ?  Back by popular demand Hoot n' Nanny will be an amazing day for everyone.  All classes will have the opportunity to join in some wonderfully active and spooky activities in the gym on Oct 31st.  When you're done you will walk through the "pumpkin patch" and take a gander at the spectacular pumpkins made by our school families.  Get ready to have a lot of fun.

  • Halloween Parade Information Dear Hawthorne Village Families,Our students at Hawthorne Village come from a multitude of backgrounds and cultures. As a result, we understand the importance of embracing our differences and recognizing our cultures and celebrations. Recently, many of our students celebrated Diwali. Many families celebrated Thanksgiving as well. October 31st is also a day of significance. For those who follow the Wicca faith, it is ‘Samhain’ which marks the end of the harvest season and preparation for winter.Also, for many North Americans, October 31st is the cultural celebration of Halloween.   • Pumpkin Patch Family Contest Hawthorne's Annual Event is back and organized by our Student Parliament members.   Families are invited to design and decorate a pumpkin based on one of the following categories: Funniest; Most teeth; Scariest; Cartoon Character; Cutest; Most Hawthorne Spirit; Sportiest; Smallest;Biggest and Most Colourful. ( Families to provide their own pumpkins).  The pumpkin creation may be dropped off in the front foyer of the school in the pumpkin patch on Tuesday October 31st anytime after 8 am and picked up by 5 pm in the front foyer ( otherwise, it will be composted).  Judging will occur during the school day.   A reminder that pumpkins are not to travel on school buses.  Looking forward to seeing the wonderful creations.

  • The Great Big Crunch Event On Thursday October 26 at 12:00 noon we will be having the school wide BIG CRUNCH in each classroom. Apples will be provided and we will all crunch (on a count down) at the same time. This year, in partnership with Healthy Kids Community Challenge BurlingtonMartin’s Family Fruit Farm, and Ontario Student Nutrition Services (OSNS), the GREAT BIG CRUNCH initiative returns as a focus on spreading the word about the importance of healthy snacking to school age children and learning about local eating.  There are 95 schools and more than 54,000 Crunchers participating this year!

  • Hawthorne Food Drive Campaign - October 16 - November 3 Hawthorne Village's, Student Parliament/Me to We group, will be running a Food Drive campaign called "We Scare Hunger", from Oct 16th- Nov 3rd.  Please bring in non-perishable food items and add them to the collection in your child's classroom. "No one should have to go hungry. For a child struggling with hunger, one meal could mean the difference between having the energy to succeed in school, or between staying healthy and getting sick. Let’s work together and collect food for our local food bank to make sure everyone in our community is supported in standing up to hunger." - Me to WeTogether we CAN SCARE AWAY HUNGER!

  • Star Wars Read Day Assembly October is Star Wars Read Month.  Let's join the millions of Star Wars fans around the world. Every page is a journey. Where will your journey take you?On Wednesday October 18 during the middle block we will be hosting STAR WARS READ Day!  It is a day designed to celebrate, foster and demonstrate the LOVE of literacy! There will be a read aloud  and special guests too. It will be a short mid-day assembly for students from K - 8.  Visit the Learning Common for books, special displays and activities to enjoy.  May the force be with you !

  • Prescribed Medication Forms for Students ( NEW) Parents/Guardians, As previously shared, the medical procedures have changed in HDSB.  Completed Medical Form 1 or 2 with signature from a Health Care Provider are required if requesting authorization for self-administration of prescribed medication by a student while at school and/or for school personnel to administer prescribed medication to a student during school hours or during an approved school activity.  To find these forms, please locate them by clicking Parent Info and then move to the Forms and Files menu.If you have any questions please contact the main office to support the process.

  • Forms: Pita Lunches and Smoothie If your family would like to participate in the Pita Pit lunches and optional smoothies, please follow the link from the main menu > and click on Parent Lunch Forms there you will find two different forms that can be printed off and sent into the school. Please note that the first term lunch forms will be due on Wednesday September 20. Thank you for your support....proceeds come right back to the school.
